My epiphany arrived around 1970 - yes, children, 1970 - when I discovered that Gordie Howe was a Republican. Of course, if I had ever given it any thought, I would have expected that to be the case, but the point is that I never did give it any thought. So I don't want to know my heroes' politics (bound to be right wing) or tastes in music (almost certain to be trashy) or religious beliefs (take a guess) or views on the world generally (let's say limited). Thus, I'm pleased to see the Raptors in Italy, seeing the world beyond the confines of the U.S., yet predictably dismayed at the reaction of many of them. I'll see Venice when I'm retired?! Come on, kid, wake up. You're there now. When you retire, it may be all under water. What have you got to do now that's better? You find the service for your eight course gourmet meal too slow? You'd rather have a burger and fries? Ahh, why is youth wasted on the young? And why is Italy wasted on T.J. Ford?
